For all its glamour as a world capital, London is actually a very tricky place to find accommodation in, as the standards seem to vary quite considerably between hotels of the same grade and the city is also very expensive to stay and live in.

Whether you are looking for a hotel or apartments in London, you have to do some research before booking any old place. Location is important for several reasons. Location firstly dictates the price and if you are looking for cheap hotels in certain parts of the city you will certainly not find them.

Secondly, location is important as to where your main interest lies, whether it is tourist attractions or business. If you are planning to take public transport then make sure that it is on a bus route or near the tube.

There are also some parts of London which are less than salubrious, so if you find a really cheap budget hotel, check where it is, as there are some areas that I would not want to be walking at night.

Wherever you look, you are unlikely to find a real bargain as the price of hotels are just so high in most parts of the city, but if you do your research you should be able to find something comfortable and within your budget.
